Last month I met Robert Ian Winstin, a composer of new music and the founder and conductor of the Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra. Last night I had the pleasure of attending a concert of theirs in Hampton and sketching up a storm during the proceedings. The kids are really good, and their enthusiasm is infectious. Journalistic integrity compels me to add that the enthusiasm was not limited to music, but was just as likely to express itself as, for instance, a lively speculation on whether one of their number was going to hurl again like last time. As far as I know, he didn't.
