There sure seems to be a lot of waste in our industrial areas. Equipment left to rust and rot, huge tracts of land bespoiled and coated with rubble. Take a train up the industrial spine of the East Coast sometime. You pass giant parking lots of old forklifts, tilting in their decay; acres of cable spools, red with rust; fields of cracked and gaping concrete pipe like broken eggshells; miles of crumbling warehouses resembling bombed-out German cities in World War II; ranks of busses whose tires have long since rotted away. Tell me again about the great well-oiled machine that is unfettered capitalism--I keep forgetting.
